Sorry to follow up my own post... but here is some additionaly info

It was suggested to me that I try using Bash instead of my normal shell,
and things run ok under bash.

Here is  a status matrix.  All tests were done while Win 95 was running

4Dos Shell - Crash
Command.com shell - Crash
BASH - Works Fine
GDB - Works Fine
Exec()ing from another program - Assume works OK

This is really driving me nuts !!!
