ID doesn't want the sources available because they want to protect their 
intellectual property.  If you had spent 5 or 10 man years finessing 
algorithms and optimizing to the max, you probably wouldn't want your 
competitor to be able to download that code and use it in a competing 
game for a tenth the cost and labour would you?
