and you are surprised? how full is the 40 Mb drive and how fragmented is
it? in addition to slow seek times and transfer speeds, if the drive is
more than 50% full and fragmented the heads will be moving all over the
place. if you have enough ram, i would say make the disk cache larger
and see if that makes a difference. in fact, it might help to get rid of
the ram drive, use that ram for the disk cache and point the temp
directory to (and the cwsdpmi swap file) to another pyhsical hard disk.
