A little more info would be helpful here.  How about the name
 of the script file, your command line to compile , and the results
of the compile if -v is specified on the command line.

Ld comes with the binary utilities distribution.  However, you
have the most current one (2.7)  

The problem is not with your loader, so a new one  
not fix your immediate problem.
