DirectX is actually a very good system (then again I think Windows is
a good system). At any rate it can deliver performance but alot of
stuff I've seen for has been slow because the programmer thinks "Hey
I'm using DirectX so I can just write this all in C...yada... yada...
yada" and they don't really think about program efficiency which I
think, from personal experience, DOS programmers do. I still think
DOS is a better OS for games. Sure it's a bit hackish at times. The
whole DPMI system seems like a big hack to me. But it works and it's
fun to mess around with. Windows doesn't allow you much messing
around room.
