This message has been cross-posted to comp.lang.eiffel, comp.os.msdos.djgpp,
and rec.games.programmer. My apologies if you see it more than once.

G'day!

I'd just like to announce that I've uploaded ACE (Allegro Con Eiffel) v0.1
BETA to x2ftp.oulu.fi. It hasn't been moved from the upload directory yet,
but when it does (in a few days), it can be found as:

ftp://x2ftp.oulu.fi/pub/msdos/programming/libs/ace01b.zip

What is ACE?

ACE is a port of Allegro, an excellent DOS game programming library, to the
Eiffel programming language. It was developed with the free SmallEiffel
compiler, but should be fairly easy to port to other DOS Eiffel compilers that
use DJGPP as a back-end C compiler.

Most of Allegro's 2D, sound and input functionality is included, but 3D and
GUI features have not been included in this release (I'm hoping to implement
this stuff Real Soon Now :-).

ACE is distributed entirely in source form (Eiffel and C), and is released
into the public domain. I will continue to develop and enhance it, however,
so new versions may appear from time to time.

What is Allegro?

Allegro is an excellent swapware game programming library written by Shawn
Hargreaves (shawn AT talula DOT demon DOT co DOT uk). It is written in C and x86 assembler
using DJGPP, the DOS port of the GNU C compiler.

It includes 2D and 3D graphics functionality, input routines for keyboard,
mouse and joystick, digital and MIDI sound output, compressed file
functionality, GUI routines etc. etc.

What is SmallEiffel?

(From the SmallEiffel read_me file) "SmallEiffel is a free Eiffel compiler
distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
the Free Software Foundation."

What is DJGPP?

DJGPP is a port of the GNU C, C++ and Objective C compiler to the MS-DOS
environment. It's primary author is DJ Delorie, but many others also
contributed to it. SmallEiffel uses DJGPP as its back-end C compiler when
used in the DOS environment.

To obtain these packages, browse the install.txt file included in the ACE
distribution.

Cheers,
Peter
