Because DJGPP is the best dos compiler available, besides possibly
watcom, and 32 bit watcom programs have to be run with an annoying
extender like dos4gw, while djgpp programs just require protected
mode.  This is speculation of course (about why quake was made with
djgpp), but this is why I switched from watcom to djgpp for
programming in dos =)
