see my allegro add-on, "atimer". should be available at:

x2ftp.oulu.fi/pub/msdos/programming/djgppv2/atimer.zip

or something similar. It allows the creation of unlimited timer
objects, while only using up one allegro timer resource, and also is a
neat wrapper. One slight bug though, you need to call stop() before
you can call read(). Also, i'm not totally 100% sure it works, but it
seems to... :-)
