Hi, there. As a DJGPP user, please let me just underscore this very
important point, with myself as a cautionary example <grin>.

Recently I downloaded a new DJGPP package, was thrilled at the results,
and customized one of the variables because of my rather unusual needs and
preferences. It turned out, as the maintainer of the package pointed out
to me later in e-mail, that I could have gotten the same effect more
elegantly and economically another way -- but my cruder solution worked
for me.

Unfortunately, in the excitement of enjoying another great new DJGPP
program, I made a public post on this newsgroup describing my "customized"
variable. What I should have realized is that not everyone who reads the
newsgroup also reads the docs <grin>, and that even those who do might
"get ideas" that could give _undesired_ results 99% of the time.

In other words, while in some forums on some applications it may be
appropriate to exchange posts on "undocumented features," I now realize
that it's _not_ a good idea to report experiments in modifying DJGPP files
not meant to be changed except strictly as directed by the docs.

Maybe this is part of "self-moderation by example" <grin>.

BTW, thank you so much for keeping MS-DOS 6.22 a viable platform, and
indeed a prime forum for cutting-edge 32-bit programs.
