grep also allows the use of regular expressions which is far more
powerful than 
the simple string searches supported by DOS' find.  This allow you to do
stuff like 

c:> grep "hell[ o]" filename

which would give all instances of the string "hell" or "hello" in the
specified file.
Silly example but its worth checking out.
