If you are using Allegro you can check the split screen for mode X...
however it will only work in modeX and when the screen is split in only
two bands. If you are looking for textmode I've heard that there is a 
port of the Turbo-* like visual interface (what Rhide was coded with,
for instance). This allows full windowed textmode interface, check it
on your FTP site...
