This might happen if ld scans all the drive letters to look for attached
hardware. (Usually, though, only interface driven programs do this,
typically to provide the user a list of valid drives to choose from.) Such
a scan would probably involve implementing a signal handler, then trying
to get a directory of the root dir of each possible drive letter A-Z. The
ones that don't cause error signals would be remembered in an array.
