My method is to have two batch files, sysinit.bat and sysvars.bat.
sysinit.bat runs hardware configuration programs (not TSRs), and calls
sysvars, which sets the environment up. AUTOEXEC.BAT invokes
sysinit.bat.

If I change the mixer settings on my sound card, I type sysinit to
make it so. If I change the path, I type sysvars. No problem!
