Actually, I wrote [and am writing] in comp.os.msdos.programmer but didn't
know what newsgroup the person I was responding to was posting from so
didn't know what newsgroups were safe to trim and still have my response
read by him/her/it (I don't have racial prejudice -- I don't even have
*species* prejudice).
: => That wouldn't help much. On this other machine, how do you simulate the

: => Of course, to do that you would need twice as many computers as you now

: Hmmm. Don't know much about testing and automation? Do a Web search - the
: simulations you need are abundant and, relatively, inexpensive.
If you can't be sure of the software you want to test, how can you trust
a simulation of the software? There could be a hidden interaction
between the simulator and the software that would give you false results.
There is a big difference between simulating an application and
simulating an operating system.
: BTW - I don't see a relevent newsgroup in the list of newsgroups this
: stupidity is cross-posted to. c.l.c is DEFINITELY not appropriate for this 'my
: OS is better than yours' drivel. Look for something with 'advocacy' in its
: name.
I wasn't commenting about "my OS is better than yours." I was commenting
on the expense of testing a new system.

: Never depend on the first rule.
This reminds me of Hofstadter's Law:
