the problem is on your monitor ... it cannot adjust on the freq of the
video
card (i think ... :) ) .... same problems i've had encountered at work when
i switch from text->640x480(windows) or 320x200->640x480 ... i
fixed with a driver for windows but for dos i dont know what can you do ...
but at home i have no problems at all ... even in 256x256, 360x400 (some
weirdo gfx modes to remeber ...) 

try with univbe (now know as display doctor) at http://www.scitech.com (not
1oo %
sure ..)
