I've found the best way around this problem is to use the getkey()
function {you'll need to #include <pc.h>}.  I know it means acquiring
data one char at a time, but you can then use string functions for any
further manipulation.

If there are any DJGPP Gurus out there with a better solution, I'd like
to know !!
