Because I don't know anything about OpenDOS (not time for testing) I
cannot
say it absolutely, but it may be the following:

OpenDOS hooks an function (or interrupt) which is called (as example) by
the keyboard interrupt when waiting for a keypress to tell the OS, that
the app is currenly idle. But (I can say it only for RHIDE) RHIDE does
not call the keyboard interrupt and does not wait for a keypress (it
polls the keyboard until a key was pressed).

But RHIDE calls the DPMI function (__dpmi_yield()) when it is idle.
