Absolutely.  On the other hand, I sometimes find the manifest directory
useful for looking up what package a given file resides in.  This is
especially useful considering the work I'm doing on DJVERIFY at the
moment.  :)

For most users, the manifest (and zoneinfo as well) directories are
pretty much useless, and can be zipped up or deleted.  I think the
former is better though, because to recreate the manifest dir you'd have
to reinstall all the packages, and that can be a bit of a pain.  :)
