Try load_pcx(char *fname, PALLETE pal). It returns BITMAP* and fills pal 
(which is just an array of 256 RGB entries) with pallete info from the file.

P.S. Yes, I know PALLETE is misspelled. But Allegro's author seems to 
like that spelling for some reason and I got used to it as well.
