The v2/readme.1st file lists the necessary files.  I suggest you delete 
the old installation, download only the files mentioned by readme.1st 
(for C programs) and install them, then try to compile a simple hello 
world program.  If it compiles without problems, continue by installing 
the latest release of Allegro.  If at any step above you have problems, 
post here their description and you will get help.
