I suggest JED. Emacs like but a lot smaller (1 meg). No Lisp but a C-like language.
Syntax higlighting for c/c++/java/html/... (like emacs...). I also wrote syntax-higlighting
for AT&T- syntax assembler...
Not to forget: built-in Info-reader... (like emacs again...)
