Can you please tell what did you try doing in Emacs when it crashed?
I wasn't doing anything; it crashes on startup.

I wouldn't go that far. If you use emacs.exe from em1934b.zip on SimTel,
then one thing to try is this:
stibedit emacs.exe minstack=512k
Then try again and tell me if that helped.
I shall try this --- it may be some time before I can get a reply out
on the result (my PC is currently not networked, not even by modem).
