You need to set LFN=y in the environment, in order to have gcc support
long filenames properly.  You can only do that in the DOS box under
Windows 95, though; when you boot in DOS mode, the LFN support is
unavailable and gcc will only see the 8+3 aliases that Windows 95 
creates.
