Since you have already received one computer virus query, here is some
useful information:-
Computer antivirals (= programs to detect amd/or remove computer viruses)
can be got from these FTP addresses by anonymous FTP (its username
`anonymous', enter your full email address when it asks for a password):-
ftp://src.dos.ic.ac.uk/pub/packages/simtel/msdos/virus/ (for MS-DOS)
ftp://src.dos.ic.ac.uk/pub/packages/simtel/win3/virus/ (for Windows)
ftp://src.dos.ic.ac.uk/pub/packages/simtel/win95/virus/
(for Windows 95, but only one entry in that directory)
Most of these are pkzipped, and must be unzipped by e.g. PKUNZIP.EXE . When
calling PKUNZIP.EXE, don't forget to always use the -d parameter!!! to
preserve any internal directory tree structure in the unzipped matter.
As people keep writing new computer viruses, these antivirals have to be
updated sometimes, so you will need at intervals to get new versions of any
antivirals that you use.
VIRUS-L is a moderated, digested mail forum for discussing computer virus
issues; comp.virus is a gatewayed and non-digested USENET counterpart.
Discussions are not limited to any one hardware/software platform - diversity
is welcomed. Contributions should be relevant, concise, polite, etc. The
complete set of posting guidelines is available by FTP on CS.UCR.EDU (IP
number 138.23.169.133) or upon request. Please sign submissions with your real
name; anonymous postings will not be accepted. Information on accessing
anti-virus, documentation, and back-issue archives is distributed periodically
on the list.
A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) document and all the back-issues are
available by anonymous FTP on CS.UCR.EDU
Administrative mail (e.g. comments or suggestions) should be sent to
