Many of the answers to these queries refer the question setter to the FAQ file.
What I am asking for is a real dumb cluck's guide to getting this.

I have retrieved faq201s.zip. (Not straightworward, since the "usual sources"
i.e Simtel, to which we are so often pointed in this group are still of 200!".)
I have unzipped it. What I __DON'T__ get is a nice text file that I can read
through to stop me asking stupid questions. I have got a make file, but this
won;t work, because I don't have 'sed'. Since I have no use for this, and I
don't know whence to get it, I am stuck.

PLEASE, let us have some instructions to help us dummies to help you non-dummies
have a quiet life. Better, give us a simple place to point our ftp clients such
that we can get a FAQ file that can be sent direct to our printers, eve if such
a file is of such vast size that our printers are left spavined, smoking beasts
by the experience.
