Nope, just boot up computer, run the program, and off it goes.

Don't have QEMM.  Would EMM386 have a DPMI provider? That's the closest 
thing I have in my config.sys or autoexec.bat.

Definitely not true, since I just downloaded and built Allegro 2.0 which 
requires V2 (and I read the V2 FAQ and downloaded what it told me to :)

Sorry! I'm still confused.  Are there different compilers in 2.0, maybe? 
I just type "gcc blah.cpp -o blah.exe -lalleg" to get my program going.
