Actually....I ran DJGPP on my PACKARD BELL(!) 386sx 16mhz, 2meg, vga. ;-)
But, no, I didn't like it (the machine that is...)

Anyway...I have Dos 6.20, and what I did (and do on my 486) is setup 
multiple boot configurations.  In my DJGPP boot setup, I don't load 
EMM386 at all.
