I've actually thought about it... until I became aware of DJGPP. 
The reason for not installing Linux, is that I would only use the 
C-compiler and nothing else (maybe some XV since I'm working on 
imagefiles). 
Plotting of results, wordprocessing etc would still be done in DOS, so if 
I can avoid Linux, and use all my normal DOS-tools and especially editors,  
it would be much better.
