   Hmm - are you sure about that host name? It appears not to exist,
   or at least so says my nameserver. There is a 'wisc.edu', but it
   doesn't allow anon ftp ...

Thank you for calling this to my attention (I make it all the time
when downloading new versions---no problem, but I should have checked
before publishing).  The correct URL is

ftp://ftp.cs.wisc.edu/pub/ghost/

and from there you can get ./aladdin or ./gnu.

There is also the complete source for a free JPEG library from the
independent JPEG people (I don't recall the exact name); I've had no
trouble with the v5a source in betas since 3.12, but I did compile
3.12 with v5.
