I like this idea.  Why not add ELF in v2.1?  I get all of the
arguments for going to it now and I agree with them, but I am
development-tools-wise somewhat conservative.  I can predict that the
argument for doing it now is that it is far easier to do it all at
once.  In the end, those doing the work should decide to weigh the
user's wishes against their own overworked schedules.
