I've been using DJGPP for several years since the 1.x days.
Unfortunately MSDOS is a lousy development environment. In the past
I've tried using OS/2 with DJGPP and the results were mixed from no-go
to marginal.

But that seems to have changed with the newest version of OS/2 which
is nicknamed "Warp". I've been using DJGPP with a beta copy of OS2
Warp for 2 months and the results are magnificent. DJGPP runs great
under OS/2 Warp. I would recommend Warp to anyone looking for a
better environment to run DJGPP. Not only can you multitask but system
crashes and lockups are very rare. Consequently I save a lot of time
by not having to re-boot as is so common under MSDOS.

OS/2 offers a fancy GUI interface but my personal preference is
command-line. If you are of the same mind then I recommend using an
OS/2 program called TSHELL which allows switching between foreground
and background tasks via a hot-key combination. It is very fast and
resource efficient, and I prefer it to all that point 'n' click stuff.

Let me add the disclaimer that my OS of preference is Linux. I have
no links to IBM or any financial interest. And I'm not an OS/2
advocate or hobbiest. But I need a better way to run MSDOS programs.
I know very little about the finer points of OS/2. However, OS/2 Warp
is by far the biggest improvement in running MSDOS applications that
I've yet seen, particularly with respect to DJGPP. But of course
let me cover my rear by saying "your litres per kilometer may vary" ....
