How big is the file system cache?

How long is the first time versus the second time after a boot...?

On a sun sparcstation, running gcc often takes about 10 seconds
for the preprocessor, compiler, assembler and linker for a
trivial program.

But I've found the growth behavior is much slower than the
DOS compiler (I'm experienced with Aztec C).
