Unfortunately, most ms-dos programs DO check this (for example,
try TYPEing a text file with only LFs in it and see what
happens). By not caring you make your job easier, but you also
lose the ability to freely move files tween your programs and
many other dos based programs.
Course, the other big win is control-z as EOF marker *sigh*
