I should have mentioned. I use aeasy102.zip to talk to the serial ports 
already. The problem is that it *doesn't* set baud rate, stop bits etc
but says you have to use another program to do this (it recommends the
MSDOS mode command).

I want to have my program operate independantly of mode, at baud rates that
mode can't set (eg 38.4k).
