In order to get a rough estimate of the delays accumulated by switching between
real/protected mode (and the eventual inefficiencies of the os) it would be
interesting to see mesurements taken on the same hardware once under djgpp and
once under LINUX or any other 32bit os with gcc available.

Has anyone the necessary hardware, software, curiosity and time to contribute
such information? I think it would be of general interest?

I think that comparing gcc to single target compilers (like bcc et al) reveals
once more that there is no free lunch: A multi target compiler with efficient
optimizations for all targets is necesarily slower than a compiler written
specifically for a single cpu family.

Thanks and kind regards!
