It may have nothing to do with your problem, but things suddenly went wrong
when I left a -c in my gcc line. The resulting "executable" was, of course,
a ".o" file, and go32 filename crashed immediately as did 
go32 -d edebug32 filename. Eventually, I saw what had happened when I looked
at the file sizes.
