Hi All !

Firstly I'd like to thank all those that answered my plea for help with such
speed and helpfulness.

Secondly my sincere apologies to Giovanni Novelli, the writer (it seems) of
XAppeal, for my remarks about Gnu C usage in compiling. Please forgive my
ignorance. 

In any case, my decision is to recommend that the user get a more compatible
card that WILL be able to do 640*480*256.

(That not being a bad move anyway, regardless whether one wants to run Xappeal
or not.)
