Many thanks to all who pointed out I should use the libgrx package.
It was exactly what I was looking for.
One additional question:
I would like to get some hardcopy output of my graphics. (Of course not
a screen hardcopy but something with full printer resolution.)
For many purposes a postscript or hpgl driver would be the optimum but
probably difficult. What should be easy, however, is a graphics driver
producing a simple portable bitmap (PBM) file of given size and number
of colors that could be converted to anything and printed afterwards.
Any ideas, comments, suggestions?
