My thoughts on this are, the linux folks have a LOT more people behind
them validating it against the standard.  Our opinions on interpreting
the standard are much less significant than theirs, and I would rather
trust them to interpret the standard correctly than our own judgement.
We already got the strtoul one wrong.

And even in Linux is wrong, there's something to be said for being
compatible with the most popular posix-like OS on the planet.
