What is the default mode of the compiler?

If you use -ansi or -std=c89 or -std=c99, you'll import into the 
namespace only what's appropriate for that version of the ANSI standard. 
(If you get more, then there's a bug in libc.)

I really don't understand what the problem is here. The code that Esa 
Peuha posted will do what you want.
