Thanks for this. I should modify it as well to use a union in ieee.h instead
of defining the union locally. Looks like I will need to search for similar
changes in libc that have been done.

I will leave this until after I finish the C++ build patch for GCC 3.3.
Hopefully I should be able to do this sometime next week.
