pakke doesn't use the DSM, because you didn't use the DSM to install grep 2.4.
If you don't use pakke to install a package, you can use --syncdb to make it
try to match a DSM to the package. See:

    info pakke synchronising

Also, it would be better to send user-level questions to comp.os.msdos.djgpp
or pakke-workers AT yahoogroups DOT com (or both). comp.os.msdos.djgpp is probably
better, because then other DJGPP users may be able to help you (and it raises
the profile of pakke ;) ).
