I successfully applied the patch to the 4.1 version of node.c, but the 
results were the same.  All of the @xref's send you to the "* Menu" 
entry.

After DL'ing the texinfo-4.1 from the GNU ftp site, I built it in my 
2.03-refresh setup using the djgpp/config.bat file, then ran make and 
make check.  Aside from "incompatible type" warning complaints about 
"bzero", everything compiled and made cleanly, and make check passed 
every test.

I ran the newly-built makeinfo on my dir.txi fragment with @xref's, and 
then I used the newly-built ginfo to test the generated dir file.  The 
behavior was the same as the txi40 distribution, everything sends you 
to the "* Menu" entry.
