There's also the Windows port of Emacs, if you need a simpler setup for 
network-related features (like email, newsgroups, etc.).  Personally, I 
always use the DJGPP port, even on Windows, because I'm unwilling to go 
back to the situation where I cannot fix a bug in the system libraries; 
but that's just me and my madness.
