The issues that are being reported wrt Win 2K/XP seem to be in the category
"can't fix due to MS API issues". The following is from left field and may
not even make it into the field of play, but here goes:-
    Is / can it be done / is it feasible / does it make sense to :-
        Add code to directly call the Win DLL code as per code as per ????'s
code, which can call Win DLL's functions when we detect we are running on
Win NT / 2K / XP?

I have not looked at this or used it at all and have only seen this on the
web.
