Indeed, from Linux/GNU, or glibc 2.1.3 to be more accurate.

And we do mimic, in this case.

Hm. The only difference is 'encountered', and most other error
messages in DJGPP are missing this kind of participles too.
So I don't think this will make a big improvement. But if you
insist, I will change it.
