Precisely.  The selectors belong to certain a virtual machine, i.e. to 
the entire DOS box.

Microsoft has a talent to trap you into their bugs and misfeatures, and to
seal all exits and work-arounds for those bugs.  It's almost as if they
considered every possible way out you would think about and consistently
blocked every one of them.
