Watchout, that's why I said *VLM*. What you describe is the behaviour 
of the old, outdated *NETX* shell (although it is still quite often 
used, I'll dig in my disk desk to find and test that..., sigh).
VLM hooks into the network API of DOS.

Maybe I was a bit unclear, the maximum directory depth is a 
(mis)feature of the NetWare *server*, not the client.  So you will 
get the same error with a Mac client.

Well, NW4.x comes with VLM as the default DOS client, but Novell 
recommends using it for NW3.x, too, because it has some nice features 
like up to 9 network printer ports.
