There are two things I'd like to add:

1. For some reason, dos editors are different in that they often replace
the tab with spaces without the user knowing.  This warrants a
dos-specific case in make to handle this.

2. The FSF is likely to accept a dos-specific fix, if properly #ifdef'd
with __MSDOS__.
