I looked inside the texts and I saw, the german specific characters are
not correct (the umlauts). But I have no experience with codepages and
such things, so I cannot help to solve the problem.

But if someone can port the gettext package, I would very interested in
it. I have done it already but not complete, because for building (bether
updating) there is a perl script, which I don't understand. (I never used
perl)

And a hint for the people, who want to port it. In the code where the
.mo file is opened, must be added the O_BINARY flag.
